Abstract
Rare earth elements have been increasingly used in the field of chemical engineering, metallurgy, nuclear energy, optical, magnetic, luminescence and laser materials. The high value of rare earths elements depends on their effective separation into high purity compounds. Hence, the separation and purification of these elements is of great concern. Solvent impregnated resins (SIRs) technique is one of the more popular methods used to separate and purify rare earth elements in an industrial scale, but the separation of these elements is a difficult task, as lanthanide ions exhibit similar chemical and physical properties. They have generally common and stable +3 oxidation state that requires certain extractants which are able to extract them from different aqueous solutions..
