Abstract
Natural convective mass transfer coefficients from vertical cylinders of varying aspect ratio, embedded in saturated porous media, were measured using limiting diffusion current technique (LDCT). Randomly packed glass spheres of different size formed the porous media. The obtained data are correlated in terms of modified Sherwood (Sh*L), modified Rayleigh number (Ra*L) and Darcy numbers (DaL). For cylinders embedded in porous media, the mass transfer coefficients can be estimated using the following: (Ra ) ] R 0.6L ) *[1 Da Ra Sh 3 29( 0.26 * 0.5 *L L *L L - = . + in the range 6×104 < RaL* <6.1×106 and 1.40 × 10-6 < DaL < 1.02 × 10-3 .
