This work has been carried out to investigate the synthetic potential of N-(4- acetylphenyl) -2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (162) as key intermediate for a variety of heterocycles incorporating trifluoromethyl group. Examples of the target heterocyclic systems are, thiazoles, imidazo [2,1-b] thiazole, imidazo [2,1-b] benzthiazole imidazo[1,2-a] pyridine, imidazo[1,2-a] pyrimidin, [1,2,4] triazolo [3,4-b] [1,3,4] thiadiazine, [1,2,4] triazolo[4,3-a] pyrimidine.
