Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is characterized by metabolic disorder and a sharp rise in the concentration of blood sugar caused by deficiency of the hormone insulin and reduced tissue sensitivity to insulin or both. In this case, the body is not converting glucose into energy or stores it as glycogen which leads to provide excessive amounts of it in the blood and causes hyperglycemia. By time it causes severe damage to the nerves and blood vessels, and that can lead to complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness, diabetic neuropathy, diabetic foot and could even it comes to the amputation. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes) is the most common form of diabetes, affecting more than 300 million people worldwide.
