Abstract

Protease enzymes have been found to be very important for the industry due to their applications in the different fields. Microorganisms are the most common sources for these commercial enzymes because of their rapid growth, as well as the limited space required for cell cultivation. Considering the richness of microbial diversity in the nature, there is always a chance of searching new microorganisms from local environments producing enzyme with better properties and suitability for commercial investment. In this study, 94 yeast isolates were isolated from different natural sources collected from different locations in Abha region to determine if they produced protease enzymes. Among them, 23 yeast isolates (24.46%) were showed protease activity using casein hydrolysis test. Isolation of yeasts producing proteases enzymes from this region has not yet been reported.
